Over the last day or two, a number of changes have gone into the strategic fleet UI. Specifically, left-clicking now toggles the selection state of a ship, while on-hover icons are used to access the ship information pane. Right-clicking inverts the current selection set for a fleet.
Also, the selection status of ships is now being displayed via a cyan glow, rather than a fade effect.
For those of you who have gotten used to the old behaviors, I suspect this will be a bit confusing. But, hopefully, the new UIs are an improvement over the old UIs. There's still some additional tweaks I'm planning to make -- but even so, letting us know what you like, and what you don't, about the selection behavior in the current build is still helpful (r12130, at the time of this post).
Note also that it's not just the behaviors around fleet motion that have changed -- the trade pool ship recall and attack / defend UIs have also changed to incorporate similar ship selection behaviors.
Ship Selection Changes
Re: Ship Selection Changes
I did notice some changes and quite like them. I didn't try the right-click to invert, but that would come in very handy. The only complaint I have is that the ? you use to examine the ship is fairly small. That kind of I'll-give-you-more-information behavior is something I usually associate with a right-click. Maybe if the ? was a bit bigger and off to the corner so it doesn't obscure the ship?

Re: Ship Selection Changes
I moved the ? a bit off-center a few hours ago -- it should tend to block the ship center less as of r12130+.Gyrfalcon wrote:Maybe if the ? was a bit bigger and off to the corner so it doesn't obscure the ship?
The icon size is a bit of a tricky one -- because the displayed size of the ships can vary, the layout of overlay icons is more complicated than it would be otherwise. In the testing I've done, I think the current ? icon size/position seems alright (again, as of r12130). In the UI for starting battles, if the battles include large numbers of ships, the icons do get a bit smaller than is ideal, but, my sense is that even in relatively extreme situations, the interface is workable, if, perhaps, imperfect.
