Hive world food production
Right now hive worlds (basically a stripped arid) has the same food production value as a garden, island, or gaia. Since hive worlds are very easy to make (once you have access to the tech) why would you build anything else?

Aquatic races don't like it. Not sure if the population grows speed is the same. Medium Island is 1 unit "bigger". Large Garden and Island are both "bigger" (I think).
