Did ship spacing change?

Small ship groups seem very tightly packed now.

Yes, I've been messing with the layout rules. If you have some cases where the ships look strange, please upload the game. I may have gotten overly aggressive with some of the ship spacing settings.

Fleet spacing looks too tight to me now, on the space deployment mode, but that's just personal preference.

Well, one thing worth understanding is that the way ships are packed varies per-ship. When I first coded up the logic, most of the Ashdar ship designs had customized packing settings -- so the Ashdar transports and colony ships packed relatively tightly. But all the other races used crude fallbacks; in particular, the Human and Gremak ship spacing were generally much wider than they needed to be. On Saturday night I spent an hour going through the config files and tried to bring most of the other fleet's spacing definitions up to spec. But, as I said, I may have gotten over-zealous with some of the new settings.

Long story short -- if you think some of the ships are packed too tightly, you need to tell me which ship assets, in particular, because all of them have their own settings.

Human starter group looks tight to me, but as you said they were not right before, so its just a matter of getting used to it.

Yeah -- with the human starter group, there's certainly room in a 1920x1080 layout to make it quite a bit wider, and add some space between all the ships. However, if you're looking at 30 human transports inside the "Trade Ships" display, I think you need a tighter spacing for the fleet display to look right. Were I to get really clever, I'd add some flexible spacing rules so that something like the human starting fleet display would spread out a bit horizontally to fill the available space. But, um, that's probably getting unnecessarily fancy.

Any way groups can sort military one side, civilian the other, right now they seem to mix (see human start for what I mean).

Is there any particular reason why this presents a problem?

Human Heavy cruiser + scout vs Human Light cruiser + 2 destroyers, the light cruiser + 2 scouts is in a larger scale then the heavy + 1 scout. More ascetic then anything else...
