So far so good
Well, SiS has pulled me back in. Been halting all MMO time to play the game and it's been worth it.
Computer IA is a lot better. The weapons and game sound effects are really good.
Thank you for all the work you put into this, it's been turning into a well rounded 4x type game that hopefully will go a lot further.

I gota tell you I’m still impressed with how well things are progressing through the development of SiS.
The latest update has made things seem, quicker? Building, research, and the research path(?) seem to be more streamline.
I do not know if it is the above reasons but the pirates (who you find that have established bases) seem a lot easier to beat. Or they have a lot less ships to defend them. On the flipside, I always choose the snake race, and their marauder counterparts seem easily beaten by IA races. Then again, I have no idea what they were attacked with, but this is after turn,150-170?
Normally the Marauders were unbeatable and had the largest fleet at the end game.
Still hoping for a drop down on the refit ship screen and the ability to select an alternate equivalent ship design rather than manually change each outdated slot.
Is there also anything in the works to queue multiple ship refits?

We're moving slowly, but surely.
Yes, that was a little bit silly and unintended.

Yes, we will be adding functionality to the refit system that will allow you to choose a target class to refit to, and also to refit multiple ships for cash.Captainspire wrote:Still hoping for a drop down on the refit ship screen and the ability to select an alternate equivalent ship design rather than manually change each outdated slot.

The UI's haven't changed much recently, but the latest patch includes a lot of ambient sound effects in different screens. They're designed to be hardly noticeable, but, I do think they're making the game feel a bit more polished and aliveCaptainspire wrote:I gota tell you I’m still impressed with how well things are progressing through the development of SiS.

Dan, who's been doing all the new sounds and music, will be very happy to hear thatCaptainspire wrote:Just played a few rounds tonight and , wow, the music. I cannot tell you how amazing that music was.

Re: So far so good
I second that the background music is very nice =)
Pleasant, unobtrusive and "spacey", something to listen for long game sessions.
My only gripe is that the research screen music feels now more "wrong" and "in your face". (I admit I did not like it much from the start)
The "engine room" ambience of the screen is also strange. Hard to distinctive make out, but noticable as a kind of "grime"/noise in the music.
At first I thought that two music tracks where playing until I recognised what it was. Now I can distinguish it, but to me it doesn't gel nicely.
I am sorry, I don't have the vocabulary or expertise to describe better what I mean

I think it's a fun shift of pace -- but it certainly is a distinct shift. Thanks for the feedback.SirDamnALot wrote:My only gripe is that the research screen music feels now more "wrong" and "in your face". (I admit I did not like it much from the start)
There are now actually different "ambient" background sounds that play subtlety in most of the different screens/modes. There's one in the research screen, another in the ship design screen, and actually 2 more in the case that you're looking at a ship in the ship status pane. Which one(s) sound off to you?SirDamnALot wrote: The "engine room" ambience of the screen is also strange. Hard to distinctive make out, but noticable as a kind of "grime"/noise in the music.
One of the tricky things about background sounds and music is that we all have different headphone setups, so what sounds "subtle" to me may well be much less so for you.

So far only the research screen stood out for me. The ship design screen has a sound I definitely heard before ("slow pulsing drone"), not sure if it is really fitting.sven wrote: There are now actually different "ambient" background sounds that play subtlety in most of the different screens/modes. Maybe some workshop sounds would be better? (whirring of electric motors, clang of metal, but subdued and distant)
I like the different sounds the colony climates generate

All in all the sounds & music are good

Interesting. The raw environmental sound files can be found in Stars in Shadow\Lua state\Sounds\ENVIROMENTAL\*.ogg. On my headphones, the research environmental is probably one of the quietest of the set -- I really can't hear anything other than the higher-pitched electronic noises that come in from time to time. But when I really turn up the volume, I do see that there's a base hum. You must have nicer headphones than I do, if it's coming through that clearlySirDamnALot wrote: So far only the research screen stood out for me.

Seems my audio setup boosts the deeper end somewhat, the ship refit sound is also something else as I thought at first.sven wrote:Interesting. Listening to the files alone was quite interesting and longer tracks than expected.
Many little nuances that I did not noticed, but are certainly there, when mixed with the music.
(Keyword is noticed, now that I know what to listen for, I can pick up the little bits and bobs in the ambience much better together with the music)
