This is great! I had a feeling you'd be Greenlit quickly.

So does this change anything?

Well, it certainly means we'll be able to launch on Steam when the release is ready, and that's a big deal :)

There's also now a real chance that we'll do an Early Access period through Steam, though how long that period will be, and just when it will start, are still to be decided.

Yup. We can now guarantee that anyone who pre-orders will get a Steam key, as soon as we're ready to launch on Steam.

Congrats.

Now, i wonder how much of those Yes already pre-ordered the game.
I know i am one of them, but there must be a load of other people who are in the same situation.

Do you have come to a decision about jumping in the shark pool that is Steam Early Access ?
It sure is, lets call it favorably, "livley", but it would be nice to see you guys get more exposition.

At this point, I think we probably are going to do an EA, but can't yet say when. As you say, there are definitely pros and cons. Provided we time it well, I do think a Steam EA could be helpful.

The Master of Orion EA is quite the show in that regard
I'm not happy with some design choices they made (but will in all likelyhood still enjoy it),
but some complaints leveled at the DEVs are just plain unfair and unreasonable.
So, when you take the jump, brace yourself with a strong coffee before you take a look at the future steam forum for SiS

Yeah, you really don't want to go into early access with a game missing major features, because there will be people who will judge it as a finished game regardless of what disclaimers you put in front of it.

I totally agree. People will always look at what they have now instead of thinking what it will be down the road.
So I recommend that you only give access, when you have a game which is close to what you will publish.

We're working on diplomacy now, which will be in a build before long. We don't plan to do espionage for the initial release.

Nice, I'm looking forward to some "Politness Judo" =)

Generally speaking? Do you still plan to release somewhere in 2016?
Because this seems to be the revival year of Space 4x with MoO, Polaris sector, stellaris, etc.
Thats some high profile competition already out or coming out in sommer. The Xmas releases are also mostly AAA Blockbusters many people want to get and you can only play/buy so many games at once. *shakes fist at steam library*
