Some Forum Strangeness

Post by Devildogff »

Anyone else have issues accessing these forums? I can only access them from my phone, as accessing them from my laptop or computer causes me to lose my IP address or worse, like a BSOD just now.

It's very strange.

Figured it out. It was a link I was using from Sven's email that my computer DOES NOT LIKE. Really strange.

Well, actually, I do I think there's a configuration problem here.

The "remember me" feature doesn't seem to be working properly for either myself or Arioch. Could involve some sort of cookie setup bug. I'm looking into it...

I don't know whether it's relevant, but I notice that in the 'Manage “Remember Me” login keys' section in the Profile tab of the User Control Panel, it shows the IP of all my login attempts as being localhost (127.0.0.1).

Okay, I was too quick to give the all clear. I ALWAYS lose my IP address when I try to visit these forums on one of my computers. 100% of the time. I have to reboot just to recover.

It may be fixed now. At least, I can't replicate the bug anymore :)

Let me know if you notice any more issues.

It's storing my correct IP address now, and it appears to work if I go the Stars in Shadow forum url: [removed] but if I go back to starsinshadow.com/forum/ it logs me out.

hrm. i saw this happen a few times while testing the changes -- but, after enough logging out, logging in, closing the browser, and so forth, it seems to have gone away. my hope would be that we still have some bugs left over from the old setup -- but that they'll go away eventually provided that people keep persistently checking "remember me" every time the option presents itself.

can you still replicate the bug after a browser restart?

This kind of thing happens when the forum belives it's on localhost, forcing some OS a redirection to their localhost that results in droping their actual (external) ip. Should be fixed with changing all internal ip reference to external ones in the forum itself.

Yes, even after a complete reboot, on both Chrome and IE11.

Neither it does for me :( Using Google Chrome here, if that helps.

Hopefully, we've tracked down the last of the issues :) Many thanks to Arioch and luciderous for helping figure this one out. If anyone's still having problems, please post about it here.
