The manual says it's been three thousand years since the end of the Great War; the in-game date starts at year 1100, which I had initially assumed was probably pegged to the Great War. Is there any idea what the in-game date is based on, or was it chosen arbitrarily?

I pretty much just made that number up.

To get more specific about it: my thinking was that whatever your empire was (Ashdar Colonials with their refounded republic, Phidi with their Combine charter, etc.), it's certainly been a while according to your own calendars since whatever you're going to consider date 0, which is why the stardate doesn't start at 0. But even for the elder races, I figured the date they'd pick to start their own calender wouldn't be the end of the war, it would be some important moment in their own post-war history.
