Missiles can miss now?

Might be I never noticed, but in a recent fight I had no less then 4 of 8 missiles fired miss the target. If it is a new mechanic, then missiles suddenly become much less viable. Few if any weapons will miss at point blank, and that is where missiles need to get in order to attack.

Still lots of balancing to do with missiles; don't panic.
edit: It was actually a bug related to the distortion field changes.

pirate ships can cloak as well making everything miss at range it seems, but when close, it goes off and all hit as normal

Yes -- the intended behavior is that missiles and energy torpedoes should *never* miss against a normal target -- but they have a 70% chance of missing against a cloaked target. This was implemented improperly in an earlier build, and missiles actually had a chance to miss against everything, but I believe that should be fixed now.
