Star Harpy Stewards

Postby nweismuller » Fri Dec 08, 2017 9:17 pm

First off- I am so very happy to see Star Harpy Stewards introduced- they're the missing link that was needed to address how normal Star Harpies get around. Thank you! On another note, however, there are three elements of actual Steward behavior, two of which are actually inconsistent with their description and one of which just seems odd.

1. Stewards are explicitly stated to be 'slower' than standard Star Harpies in their description, but still have a speed of 18, equivalent to standard Star Harpies and faster than destroyers.
2. Stewards are stated to have an electromagnetic overload attack from their electrocytes at close range. Given that they aren't slower than standard Star Harpies at the moment, the fact that this is unimplemented is a mercy.
3. Stewards have self-repair capacities. Not that it explicitly says one way or another, but they don't seem to have a self-repair component, and it makes them damnably hard to kill.

Overall, though, despite any observations I make, my overriding message is just being happy the Stewards were implemented. Thank you both for your excellent work on this game, and I look forward to continued improvements!

Agreed, it is always nice to see additions to this game and I have been hyped for the rest of the two crafts layed out in the DEV blog

I was hoping that the smallest Harpies will be spawned from Harpy nests, but hope these will still be implemented like forward bases or maybe tied in with the engineer

Regarding Stewards though: yes they regenerate and I also didn't see their close combat skill in action.
Currently, they seem to escort small packs of Harpies from anomalies to Harpy infested systems, but they also seem to take their escort with them when they leave. Is the idea that the Stewards would be ferrying the harpies from anomalies to new systems, like flagships spearheading an invasion?

I think the implication based on what I've already seen from normal Star Harpy autopsies, the name 'Steward', and my knowledge of the role of standard Star Harpies in the Arda Seed's functioning, is that Stewards are designed to ferry standard Star Harpies around to set up remote mining operations, and collect the material thus generated, bringing it back to the HSAs to be used as raw material by the Arda Seed.

It's pretty obvious based on what we've seen of the Arda Seed so far that the entire reason they maintain a presence outside of the HSAs is in order to mine raw material for use in whatever they are doing at the HSAs- and this assumes that they don't have a core presence somewhere even 'deeper' than the HSAs we can detect. We don't exactly see a lot of infrastructure or society in place at the HSAs, but whether that's because they're only the 'top' layer of the Arda Seed empire buried in hyperspace or because the information that would help shed light on actual Arda seed activities at the HSAs is yet unimplemented is not exactly something we can tell right now.

The Harpy Nest is done and should be in-game soon. The Steward is doing double duty for itself and as a placeholder for the Engineer, which I'm still working on.

Question, Arioch, since I haven't yet bagged a Steward or other larger Arda Seed ships yet- are there autopsies available for Stewards that shed light on their role in the Arda Seed? No need to tell me what the autopsy says, just whether I should have that to look forward to.

There are autopsies for all of the Arda Seed units. Whether they are in the current test build I can't say.

Can confirm the autopsy rewards for the first three types: Harpy Harvester, Medator and Steward
Haven't shot down a Herald since the reward has been implemented that I can recall.

For capturing a HSA, the only two bonus currently that I can tell is that there will be not further Harpy invasions spawned from that location and this is the only location where Medators can be reaped for the science benefit

Great news on the Engineer and Harpy Nest - can hardly wait to see them in action :)

Just an update:
As of the last patch the Steward is both slower and has it's electrocyte attack. I can confirm that it hurts - vaps light cruisers in one shot. Their shields are also strong and regenerate fast. Don't bother with Plasma or Hellbores. Doesn't use it's electrocyte defensively, though, so it can still be swarmed with missiles. Takes plenty of missiles.
