Re: Technology cost rising with bigger galaxy?

Applying a tech penalty to large empires would essentially be an incentive to turtle, and I'm not sure that's a good incentive. This is a game of expansion, and if you choose not to expand, more power to you... but the game in that case should be fairly difficult. Thats a danger, thats true, but yo...

Re: Technology cost rising with bigger galaxy?

Of course a bigger empire will always produce more research than a small one up to a certain extent, but not several times that much. For example if this would be true in our real world, little Switzerland would be a third world country, no? No, IMO having a certain balance in this matter will serve...

Technology cost rising with bigger galaxy?

One question do I have. Does the tech cost rise with bigger galaxy setups? The calculation I have is the following. If 40 colonies in a lets say medium galaxy put out 400 research points per turn, 160 colonies in a large galaxy put out 1600 points. But if the cost of the tech tree remains the same, ...

Re: First Impression

I dont think its a good idea to mix irrelevant information about the planets like temp with important information like pop. You should give fluff info to a special area for those who are interested in it, while you should graphical emphasize the game relevant infos. Its really distracting otherwise ...

Re: Missiles everywhere

I like the idea of missiles travelling only a bit in their first turn, this might be a good solution. A version of this change is now up on 'dev'. I've cut down missile launch distances significantly, fighter launch distances less significantly, and torpedo launch distances not at all. What should ...

Re: Suggestion for Tech Tree Layout

I am all for transparency, clarity and ease of use. I dont like hidden information in my games (except for fluff stories like galactic asteroid secrets or whatever). So I am voting for a tech tree model like that of galciv or civ which shows all techs from the beginning on, where I can conveniently ...

The focus of SiS?

Somewhere I read about you intention that SiS should emphasize the movement/combat aspect of 4x and not so much the diplomacy/spying/economical aspect. Is this is still correct, then I would suggest to introduce a logistic element. logistic ships -ships with ammunition supply modules which share the...

Re: Suggestion for Tech Tree Layout

I hope you will find time to do this. After playing alot of other 4x games I think that a tech tree is todays state of art for technology representation. Its advantages are clarity and preplanning capability and I guess this will also meet the expectations of many players. If you like to draw I woul...

Suggestion for Tech Tree Layout

I really think that a tech tree layout of your techs would bring more clarity into your tech system is is currently not more than a endless list with hyperlinks. How about this?

Re: Victory conditions?

different victory conditions are good, but you should not forget that different victory conditions should also demand radical different game strategies form the players. Eg. if you go for a victory against a advanced race you have to have alot of combat ships no? If I want to achieve military victor...

comparision between MOO2, SiS and Star Drive 2

Please forgive me, its quite a long post. (its Sunday so I have time to write something about my fav genre ;) ) The last few days I played 3 4x games, SiS Beta, SD2 and today classic MOO2. I have to say the oldest game of the 3, MOO2, was inferior in graphics and screen resolution but it blew the ot...

Re: Technology trees

I agree that miniaturization is a potentially interesting feature, because it may make a lower technology item that you're fond of more viable to stick with longer, offering more variation in play. But it would require you to refit your ships more often. We've talked about including a "mass re...

Re: Technology trees

Yep the miniaturization rules from MOO2 was genius. It was micromanagement to refit the ships but in a good way because I had to work out a strategy if my miniaturized mass drivers are good enough for the Bulrathi and I should skip plasma guns or not. So for me thats a wonderful real strategic choic...

I like the system as it is. You build a colony ship which is quite expensive, so its balanced when also an extra colonist comes with it.

Enpi´s Betalist

Yesterday I played a game of SiS It was in good shape for a beta development. Better than i thought. I really enjoyed the game (at least until the end game where it suddenly crashed) Nonetheless there are still some things I want to remark 1 - Boarding Combat - there should be a feedback (eg a windo...
