Re: yuppi - MOO gets a new edition!
I just read that this game has realtime combat. What an abomination. An real MOO successor has tb and not rt combat. I want to apologize for my unfounded enthusiasm. What I learned about this debacle: Wargaming.net may have been good in their earlier days but now they are as misleaded as other ...

Re: Planets not very interesting?
Each planet type contains different biomes, which appeal to populations of different races. Moving the appropriate colonists to the right planet (Thresher colonists, for example, to an Island world) will increase the population cap and the number of infrastructure slots.

Re: Running out of fuel range
From a gameplay perspective, I think the differences between "redirect on arrival" and "redirect when outside of range" have pretty much the same consequence -- as they both end up implying that cutting enemy supply lines is a fairly effective strategy. "Redirect on arrival" probably makes the ...

Re: Planet invasion mechanics
I would be disappointed if the ground combat system stays like it is now instead of implementing the much more involved system arioch proposed.
I am no expert in "control of expanding speed of empires/AI" or so, but I would rather play a interesting game where I have plan ground combat carefully ...

Re: Planet invasion mechanics
I have to admit that I really like all the proposals from Arioch, Sven and echo. They sound like a super fun simple ground combat subgame and I am looking forward to try them out once implemented. Just press "go" the units are queued in their row and 1 combat round begins. if both sides survive, the ...

Re: Planet invasion mechanics
In the current build I never needed more than 1 single troop transport to conquer a planet, so I am for the system Arioch suggested. it would be much more rewarding to have constructed units for invasion. (or at least different units like MOO2) For this it would be mandatory to carefully design a ...

Re: Technology trees
maybe miniaturization would allow you to put in double, triple and quadruple turrets in the slots? or opening more modifiers like it did in MoO2 for missiles and even slots (armored, fast tracking, dual purpose, etc).

Re: Why does the defender move first?
you should introduce a initiative value for each ship depending on a mix of size, computer, speed or whatever like MOO2 had. Thats still the best solution for such a tb tac combat system. The problem is when you make a strict IGOYOUGO system the bigger (number of ships per side) the battle is, the ...

Re: yuppi - MOO gets a new edition!
hm..now they said that tac combat will not be the focus. Thats terrible news, when the dev of a reboot dont fully understand what made the original good. I hope this game dont tank. My optimism seemed to be a little bit premature.

Re: Ground combat?
SD2 was awful from the design PoV. While everything the devs copied from MOO2 was great of course - although it was rather a 2nd rate copy - every concept they invented by themselves was IMO crap. (except the fuel mechanic which I think is decent)

Re: After test game some observations
One thing I really, really like about the SiS game setup:
I have not yet seen two instances of the same race in a single game. Other games (SOTS and Distant Worlds come to mind) have a truly 'random' distribution of enemy empires, which in practice usually means that you will end up surrounded with ...

Re: yuppi - MOO gets a new edition!
Wargaming.net devs are big fans of turnbased strategy games themselves. Nowadays only world of tanks is well known but before this they produced excellent turnbased games.
I disagree with this one.

Re: Ground combat?
i think having ground combat with little sprites to illustrate the battle as seen in MoO2 was and still is my preferred ground combat. something about seeing your little troops dooking it out with noticable difference in weapons and armour is awesome! i just wished that MoO3 had expanded on the ...
