I think zolobolo solution would be the best. When you order a colony ship/planet colonization into the build que, a submeny pops up that demands that you choose race. Simple and effective.

Does missiles have the same hp as torpedos? If that is the case Id say the primaries are better, but if missiles have lower, the more shots of the turbo lasers would actually allow you to kill more missiles.

I would like to see PD going between x-y range and anti missiles only working on y-z range. That would achieve the desired effect of anti missiles being the long range shield and PD the last line of defence.

Sounds perfect, since I also have the same problem when building huge ships on one planet and maybe a long term Def Star base on a mining planet. Would be great even for us players if this could be avoided.
