Just to confirm that the issue is what I think it is, would you go into Options, and enable "Simplified Graphics" (lower left-hand corner). I believe that should fix the issue for you. (If it doesn't, then I need to look in different places when hunting down this issue.) You are right, st...

When I start a new game (default settings), the Background universe is pitch black and some texts and button captions are not displayed:

When loading an old savegame (from 03/2017) the problem does not occour.

AFAIK every upcoming defense slot will get the same number of hardpoints + 2 extra weapons/planet mounts +1 system mount. That's a lot of stuff! No costly fortresses needed to easily defend against several Battleships. Moreover with the introduced changes to the Shield piercing mechanics this game ...
