Re: Humanity is fun.
Maybe a crutch like that for the AI so they don't end up defeated before anybody meets them, but having some races be objectively harder to play can make for interesting stories/situations for the player. Difficulty sliders/selection usually result in the AI getting to cheat harder, or placing ...

Re: Tall vs Wide Empires
Right now the AI empires aren't offering much in the way of competition (they're expanding slowly if at all and hardly building anything larger than a scout), so there's not much of a penalty for focusing exclusively on expansion. Re: First 'complete' playthrough
Thanks for the feedback! Just a few notes on items that are in the process of being addressed:

Re: Dedicated topic for design discussions and/or feature suggestions?
There's no need (at this early stage, at least) for a one-size-fits-all approach. If you have a lot to say, post your own thread. If you have a small item or one related to an existing discussion, post it in an existing thread.

Re: My five cents for early impressions
1. UI transparency and visual clutter
This is something that feels like it needs more work at the moment. Whenever you click on a star system, bring up planet management screen, ship management screen etc. - the star map remains completely visible (if only a bit dimmed) in the background. This ...

My guess is that the tactical pass will start next week. There's a lot to do there.

Cool.
The beta has no NDA?
What are your thoughts about it Echo?
That is actually a good question about the NDA. I know the devs would like us to refrain from sharing screenshots, videos, and so on, but they haven't mentioned anything about the testers just sharing their thoughts on the game ...

Re: First Impressions
Also, does selecting where we fire on enemy ships play any role in determining which enemy systems are damaged?
No.
Rotating is very finicky to me. I think I’m supposed to use the right mouse button to click on the ship once I’ve got its silhouette facing in the direction I want it to rotate ...

Re: Map size and range.
Range is based on your current hyperdrive technology; you can travel X distance from any of your colonies or outposts. There is also an optional ship component (currently called "Warp Lane Amplifier") that extends the range of the individual ship at the cost of a System slot.

I don't know whether it's relevant, but I notice that in the 'Manage “Remember Me” login keys' section in the Profile tab of the User Control Panel, it shows the IP of all my login attempts as being localhost (127.0.0.1).
