If point defense were effective enough that a fleet could defeat 100% of the missiles from an enemy force three times as large, then missiles would not be viable weapon and nobody would build them. I like the fact that it takes a lot of investment in troop transports to conquer high population planets.Too many games allow for 2-3 troop transports to conquer a planet of billions of people when I believe a full planetary invasion and occupation should be a monumental undertaking. I agree that researching missiles and then not having any missiles to equip is non-intuitive, but I'm not sure that showing the user a component that can't be equipped is the right way to fix the problem. I also found it confusing at first when I researched missiles and then didn't see them show up...

Oh, I like it. It's sexy. That's $50 of sexy for a 50¢ change. The one (very minor) addition I would suggest is to randomize the starting positions of the planets. Because otherwise every system with the same number of orbits looks the same. I hope the beta testers don't mind seeing the developers ...

- white spaces instead of text on the game menu screen

I definitely think this is an important discussion to be having. I am a big fan of combined arms tactics and it always saddens me when the best strategy in any game is to build a lot of the biggest unit to constantly throw at the enemy. As of now I never bother building destroyers when I unlock them...
