As far as I'm aware, Gremak base research has always been +0.

The Gremak have an ancient society that starts with a lot of ancient technology. Learning to research new things is something they are not used to and have to put some effort into.

Loosing transports would be a logical outcome and would not require UI changes - only to display the lost transports in the battle report screen in the end I don't feel it is a logical outcome. I had an idea. What if delivering troops from a cargo hold incurred some chance of the transport itself being destroyed, when participating in a ground invasion? I'd prefer to implement the originally intended behavior (which will require some UI changes), but it's not a really high priority at the...

Dropping invading troops from a cargo hold instead of assault shuttles is supposed to incur a combat penalty, but this was never implemented.

I'm not sure that's so terribly unrealistic. If a modern country like Japan or Korea or China were to suddenly lose all trade with the United States, it would be an economic catastrophe. Despite the huge number of domestic consumers each one of those countries has.

The way foreign trade works (as far as I am aware) is that foreign routes are more profitable than domestic routes. There is at most one ancient super-dreadnought on a map. Requiring capture of this to build SD's means at most one faction in a game can ever build them, and this might not be the player's faction.

Yep, it already exists. When in the ship designer, you can choose an existing design from the Hardpoints dropdown menu at the upper left.
