Additional Planetary Defense slot.

Good idea.

Less good idea. But funny. :D

Re: Suggest - Features and Improvements

We plan to explore more of the Arda Seed story in future expansions as we get deeper into hyperspace (assuming we're able to get there). Having the AI rename planets would be cute & fun. I am concerned that making the rebellion mechanic more punishing would be kind of like kicking the player whe...

Re: Tiny rocks and gas giants question

Make the moon(s) effectively an addition to the planet. So that colony might have enough room for a couple more pops depending on the type of moon, and has the chance to roll a number of specials (some of which can be tagged as only_on_moons etc if required). Yes, that's the general idea... in game...

Re: Suggest - Features and Improvements

As it is, the existing planetary biomes, and who works best in what biome, is too opaque -- for example, on the species description screen, it doesn't say who favors what biome! And there's like four tiers of favor sometimes, which doesn't actually add much to gameplay. In the information pane of t...

Re: Fleet bases underwhelming?

5 Food is a lot... it's more than the starting farm on a high-fertility Garden world, and that's with 2 colonists working it. The entire starting output of a Garden world with 1 Farm and 6 colonists is only 7 Food. It's hard to imagine a module on a space station producing that much food.

Re: Patreon?

We don't currently have a Patreon account. I'm not sure that's the right platform for what we're doing... I think Patreon works best when you have regular (at least monthly) updates, so that people get a sense that there is regular progress being made for their contributions. But we definitely appre...

Re: Suggest - Features and Improvements

The current Planet Report is meant to be a simple quick reference that can be up all the time without cluttering up the main map. I would rather add a dedicated full-screen planet report that can be all things to all people rather than continue to try to cram more and more into the quick reference p...

Re: Tiny rocks and gas giants question

We want to avoid the situation where you can always place colonies on all four orbital slots. This is partly for the flavor of the game -- good colony sites should be rare enough that factions may get into conflict over the best ones -- and partly for mechanical considerations, as increasing the num...

Re: Terraforming

I suppose it's possible for organisms to derive energy from the temperature gradient generated by the decay of radioactive elements, but the density of such material would have to be much greater than I think you're likely to find on the surface of a conventional planet. Radioactive elements tend to...

Re: Introduce yourself :)

I am skeptical the description "structured" really applies to PL/1, but my memory of it is so hazy I could be wrong. The only programming languages I ever studied that I would call structured are C and its derivative, Java. By "structured" I mean the use of control structures (i...

Re: Introduce yourself :)

PL/1 was actually the first structured, procedural language I learned in college (I had already taught myself BASIC, which was sort of the command-line language used by the TRS-80). I never actually used it for anything in my life as a programmer, though. :D

Re: Terraforming

We have some ideas for playable factions that have more unusual environmental requirements. We're trying to be as creative with them (both from a lore and gameplay standpoint) as we can. I think a plausible "lithovore" race that lived on airless worlds would need to have an incredibly slow...

Re: Terraforming

We do plan on adding a Swamp planet (which would be a generic version of the type Gremal represents). I think it is possible to have a lot of surface water but to have it mostly in very shallow lakes and wetlands. Earth during the Carboniferous era was an example in which there was almost a monobiom...

Re: Tiny rocks and gas giants question

Slightly unrelated, but it's kinda weird that you can construct a medium or large planet in an empty orbit, but you can't construct a planet if it already has something in the orbit. However, constructing and terraforming planets is so late in the game that I doubt it matters much to competitive ga...
