IMHO, fleet AI could be improved by introducing attacks of opportunity. In both cases when it struck me, and judging by stack trace, it's because discontent harmonized pop (Algorians and Lummox for me) has become content, and the game can't find appropriate race icon to display notification about it. If I understand correctly, currently estimate for metal surplus or shortage on the status bar accounts only for items being produced, not their successors in the queues. This spawns problems when developed shipyard colony or two mass-produces ships or ship upgrades, especially metal-costly ones ...

I would like to have in tactical combat menu of small craft carrying ships command "Abort current sortie and return to carrier". Can be useful in some situations to prevent excessive small craft losses.

After the 2nd war fleet gets more diversified. It includes captured ships, mostly marauder. Time before 3rd war is spent on refitting these, and expansion of the core fleet by newly-built 4 Shuttle Carriers, 4-8 Leech Missile Destroyers, and 2-3 Battleships (Phidi use mercenaries for these). AI probably should not ask permission to colonize planet bearing his own outpost. Also, when two allies in one turn asked permission to colonize the same planet in my system, and I permitted it to one of them, message from the second wasn't recalled.

Assimilation of allied empire did not removed request from them to colonize in one of my systems.
