Re: Turbolasers

Wait, they do? I don't remember seeing this. Turbolasers are already one of the best weapons in the game already, they need to get even BETTER?

Re: Military transports are too strong

The best ways I've found (so far) of dealing with massed boarding ships is: - First, bring lots of destroyers to fly out in front and physically screen more valuable ships so if a transport hard docks you only lose a DD, but if it targets anything else the shuttles have to actually fly out You tech...

Re: Cant stop tinker asteriod outposts

Well, I suppose the key difference is that a regular outpost sets up shop on something that is already owned by you, while a Tinker asteroid brings its own place, and can move on when they get bored of it.

Re: Auto Migration?

This must be a new thing, then, since I'm used to encountering horribly underpopulated AI colonies. If the AI is actually now transporting men in transports, hooboy, it's time to hoist that black flag. ARR, MATEY! I remember in another game with that kind of feature, I used to obtain a large number ...

Re: The AI does not know fear (when it really should)

If you are transporting crew from the normal transport into the boarding transport that is legit I also do this regularly from large ships to the boardign transport (they cannot be boarded untill engines working and if enemy doesnt have boarding ships which the AI usually doesnt have as it is not u...

Re: Found an exploit of sorts...

To be fair, if they COULD get around the planet, it wouldn't actually HELP them because we'd just end up with a game of Ring Around The Rosie.

Re: Auto Migration?

Honestly, the main reason for figuring out how to auto-migrate is not necessarily to reduce any kind of player tedium, but that it would be a huge help to the AI, who currently doesn't really have a good idea how to migrate pops, so his colony development sucks.

Re: Is there a downside to breaking peace treaties?

The Human case for a pan-species polity is actually far weaker than the Ashdar case, since the Ashdar represent an old empire, while the humans are not any continuation of any previous human empire, but simply a group of humans forging their own new empire, potentially one of many. So while the Ashd...

Re: Tinkering With Tinkers

It would be nice if ships in Refit weren't ignored entirely for that calculation. They're still ships in your fleet. Another primary weakness of many AIs in 4Xes is failure to assess economic strength's translation to military strength. AIs frequently decide you are militarily pathetic even when yo...

Re: The AI does not know fear (when it really should)

The AI would look at my pathetic transport-only fleet and think "Yeah, I can beat that." Yes, that is the other type of combat value the AI does not calculate optimaly: boarding modules (shuttles inlcuded but especially the bae boarding module itself) Oh, I don't mean that they're boardin...

Re: The AI does not know fear (when it really should)

After all, where on such a small ship the furry devils find room to store so many warheads? They didn't. They're just hanging there on the outside of the hull, you can see them. If anything, the tradeoff should be the increased possibility of ammo explosion since they're just hanging there off the ...

Re: Tinkering With Tinkers

Imagine if you woke up one morning and you found that all of your body parts had been amputated and that you are now a cyborg that had been serving the monsters that did this to you... but now you are unplugged like a Neo or a disconnected Locutus. At the very least, I think you'd be confused and a...

Re: Discontent populations, staffing, Scavengers, and Gaiads

I'd say that maybe humans receive a flexible bonus divided proportionally by what the planet is producing, maybe like 75% of the value of a specialist species, but always there, so that humans become a generalist pop that functions well on a planet prone to priority shifts. Gremak, on the other hand...

Re: The AI does not know fear (when it really should)

I suspect it would be a generally revolutionary advance in 4x AI for it to actually be able to take into account its combat record against you. I mean, pretty much every 4x with customizable units tends to run into this situation where the player has created a combo that vastly exceeds the effective...

Re: Discontent populations, staffing, Scavengers, and Gaiads

I find it odd that Scavengers can't be moved, even though Scavengers are explicitly non-native by lore and proliferate throughout places by getting moved. We specifically don't allow you to enslave or exterminate undesirable native species because they are specifically meant to be a disadvantage to ...
